John (Jack) C. Young, Senior Consultant


Mr. Young has over 25 years of experience in fleet management. This experience includes serving as the Director of Fleet Management for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, a National GRID Company, based in Syracuse, NY and more recently as a fleet consultant. During his 26-year career Mr. Young was involved in all aspects of the fleet management profession including leasing, engineering and specification, alternative fuel vehicles, procurement alliances, vehicle and equipment replacement strategies, business planning, information systems and the development and implementation of in-formation based performance measures. While Director of Fleet Management he was responsible for a budget of $45 million over 4,500 vehicles and pieces of equipment and over 200 employees.

Mr. Young has published many articles on the fleet management profession and was a frequent speaker at industry-sponsored conferences. Before retiring Mr. Young was the Senior Vice President of the Williamsburg Electric Utilities Fleet Manager’s Conference. In April of 2002 he was one of ten (10) national fleet managers recommended for Automotive News, Fleet Manager of the Year Award. He has served as project manager for several alternative fuel vehicle programs including SWRI’s (Southwest Research Institute) conversion of mid range diesel engines to natural gas and the EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) Electric Vehicle Commercialization Task Force. Additionally Mr. Young has been an active member in the EEI (Edison Electric Institute) and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) utility vehicle committees.

Recently, Mr. Young has consulted to the fleet industry working with such following companies as: American Water (4,500 vehicles); the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (16,000 vehicles); KeySpan Energy (4,600 vehicles), PNM Resources (2,100 vehicles), Pacific Gas and Electric (13,000 vehicles) and JHT Holdings (400 vehicles). He also served as Interim Fleet Manager at American Water and was responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive fleet program consisting of fuel management, specification engineering and standardization, integration of nation wide supplier alliances, vehicle and equipment optimization strategies, maintenance management and information system development and application. Mr. Young holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and has taken several courses in business administration from Union College, Schenectady, NY and Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY.
